1. ChatGPT has surpassed 100 million users, but tech regulation is still behind the industry/market. The UK’s online safety bill and the EU’s Digital Services Act came two decades after the launch of Facebook. In the US, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has proposed a framework for developing AI regulations, while UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has convened a global summit on AI safety for the autumn. However, the European Union seems to go further with the AI Act, the first serious attempt to regulate artificial intelligence. This initiative is part of the digital transformation strategy, and it reflects a broad-based commitment among MEPs to regulating and valorizing AI (Official Records on the IPSAPortal).

2. After ten years of open digital learning development on a global scale through MOOCs, and three years into the pandemic that has made online education the norm for many of the world's citizens, published reviews of the new learning tools that were implemented are particularly useful. For institutions facing declining enrollments, attracting and retaining online learners poses an urgent challenge. In this context, Wiley (University Services) recently published the 12th edition of the Voice of the online learner report, dedicated to students’ opinions and perceptions of online learning. The report highlights a wide range of challenges faced by online learners during their educational journey, providing specific, actionable recommendations to help address students’ concerns (Thematic Networks on the IPSAPortal).

3. In August 2022, Pearson plc, the world’s leading learning company, announced a strategic review of its international online program management (OPM) business. The sale of Pearson Online Learning Services (POLS) represents a realignment of Pearson's portfolio towards future growth opportunities focused on lifelong learning. Today, another of the “Big Four” in the online program management space, Wiley, announced the sale of its OPM business (the others are 2U/edX, and Academic Partnerships) (HigherEdDive). The online education world is changing more rapidly in the aftermath of COVID, with major implications for the university – its configuration, role and function – that must be monitored more closely than ever (The Chronicle of Higher Education) (Media Sources on the IPSAPortal).
