NEW ISSUE OF IPSR PUBLISHED

The latest issue of the International Political Science Review (IPSR) for June 2022 (Volume 43, Number 3) is a special collection on Brexit with seven articles titled The Brexit effect: Political implications of the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union. The collection is guest-edited by Gianfranco Baldini and Nicola Chelotti. Also included in the issue are three regular articles and a thank you note to all reviewers in 2021.

The special collection explores how Brexit has impacted the territorial integrity of the UK, its political parties, parliament and critical areas of governance, such as security cooperation and financial regulation. The first of the additional articles, by Yildirim et al., explores agenda dynamics and policy processes in military regimes using case study data from Turkey, while the second article, by Park and Choi, looks at the effects of broad and narrow UN sanctions on domestic populations. And finally, Yates uses a qualitative life-story-and-family-history method to compare two republican family dynasties in North Korea and Syria.

IPSA members can access the full IPSR archive dating back to 1980 through the My IPSA menu. IPSA’s flagship journal, IPSR, is published by SAGE and is committed to publishing peer-reviewed material that makes a significant contribution to international political science.

1. Developed by Globsec, the vulnerability index analyzes the susceptibility to foreign influence of eight Central European and Western Balkan countries along five dimensions: public attitudes, political landscape, public administration, information landscape, and civic and academic space. Conversely, the Disinformation Resilience Index in Central and Eastern Europe in 2021, measures how well some countries – including Poland and Hungary - have equipped themselves to counter disinformation in Central and Eastern Europe (Special Collections on the IPSAPortal).

2. The Fake News Observatory (EDMO), established as an EU-funded body in June 2020, is a partnership led by the European University Institute in Florence. It aims to produce analysis that uncovers disinformation. Regarding the current conflict, some initiatives have exposed Russian disinformation on social networks by quantifying fake accounts involved in communications via Twitter and verifying the actual events in Bucha, with the participation of FactaNews in the del network (Thematic Networks on the IPSAPortal).

3. The Social Observatory for Disinformation and Social Media Analysis (Soma) and debunkeu.org provide abundant evidence in support of the systematic, pervasive, and deliberate information pollution perpetrated by Russia against Ukraine and other countries, including in the Baltic republics. Between 1 and 31 October 2021, DebunkEU analysts found 666 articles with false and misleading content from 53 media sources, with a potential reach of over 200 million hits (Special Collections on the IPSAPortal).
